Spliethoff buys bust Hansa Heavy’s fleet
Dutch outfit Spliethoff has swooped for all five ships previously owned by bust Hansa Heavy Lift. The ships – all Chinese-built and delivered between 2008 and and 2011 – are the HHL Tyne, HHL New York, HHL Mississippi, HHL Elbe and Beluga Family, according to the latest weekly report from Allied Shipbroking.
No price has been revealed for the geared ships although online pricing portal VesselsValue puts the combined price tag for the five ships at $39m.
Hansa Heavy, the Hamburg-based successor to Beluga Shipping, declared its insolvency last month. Hansa Heavy, whose main shareholder is American private equity firm Oaktree, had been under financial pressure for a number of years with some of its ships arrested in recent months.
